And Yes, NC should have 10000, it's a very good challenge Smile

Yashira has a lot of hard challenges, I said that because my native language is spanish and even for me some challenges are impossible. I think that the site deserve more score, but whatever you want is good Happy

In my opinion, the language of a site should not matter anymore.
All sites should get 10,000 points, except a few "small" or "too easy" sites get their malus.
I will raise a few other basescores any soon, so all sites are worth a try Smile

I wonder what's the point of having all those complicated scripts to adjust the site scores if the basescores are biased and not the same for all sites. This being said if you really want to differentiate between the obviously hardcore sites and the obviously much easier ones, then you should only have two sets of basescores, eg: 10k and 5k. Not 6k, 7k, 8k, 9k and 10k, because then you're starting to be impartial.

And a little off topic: For Newbie Contest it would be better if you took into account the number of challenges solved instead of the number of points. The thing is that because of the system in place there the score drops by about 5 points everyday and everyone stops updating his stats even though they solve a challenge now and then.

Yeah, as i said all sites, except one or two, will have the same basescore any soon, so no more biased basescores, only the scripts decide.
The basescore for non-english sites have been lower than for english sites a long time, and i think it`s time to drop that rule Smile

I suppose you mean the maxscore varies a bit on Newbie Contest.
If a site`s maxscore changes, our data will be still accurate (for example a chall gets added), but the small glitches are there because the userscore changes a bit too i suppose.
I guess this will only be very small glitches, maybe 0.01% here and there.

But you pointed out a general problem with the scoring; Some sites score by points and others by challcount.

Take infomirmo as example which scores by points and its hard to get 10% there.
Now we take the 0.10 and you get 0.10*0.10*score for infomirmo.
Other sites score by challcount, and it`s easier to gain 10%

Of course this gets reflected in the scoring, because on the easier site the avg will be higher, but maybe we can take the two different scoring shemes into account in future. (maybe adjust scores for one type to behave similar or use 2 different algos)
All in all i think that scoring by score is better than by challcount, and we should not reduce this back to challcount.

I hope all players are happy with the more equal basescores.

I like that you are removing the penalty for non-English sites. Speaking purely selfishly, non-English sites are harder because of the language factor so I'm thrilled to have them go up.

About the site scores:

WeChall is ranked too low-- much, much too low.
Haxtor is ranked too low.
Ma's and Electrica are ranked pretty high, but still too low in my opinion.
Black Zero and Astalavista should be ranked closer together, so should Rankk and Lost-Chall, and also CSTutoring and Rosecode.

Haxtor basescore has been raised from 8,000 to 10,000 now.

If you spot other sites that have a basescore lower than 10k, let me know Smile

RE: New scoring

I don't really understand the scoring system.
I've read http://www.wechall.net/scoring_faq.

here is an example calculation how i understood the calculation:

lets say my solution average is 27.37% and the score for root-me is 20118 according to http://www.wechall.net/site/details/46/Root-Me.

a = 27.37%
a*a/100 = 7.491169%
(a*a/100)*20118/100 = 1507.07337942

But the wechall calculation is 796, this are about 52.8% of the value i calculated.
What did i miss?

cheers,
bashrc

The scoring_faq is outdated.

The algorithm changed from a*a to pow(a, 100/challcount).

I will update the scoring faq when i find some time Smile
(It's a bit tedious because of the translations)

Cheers
