Zalgo text

So, I recently learnt about a hack that leads to weird text, (based on utf8/or any utf encoding I guess).
Though I do not have a lot of info on this subject.

Here is an example:

What do you guys think? Anyone with insight?

It's not really a hack. It's using unicode symbols that change the direction of text to make a mess instead of using it for their original purpose: support for scripts that don't write left-to-right, top-to-bottom. A hack suggest to me that there is unintended behaviour, but that is not the case here; it's just unexpected for most people.

UTF encodings are just that: encodings. The "functionality" is in the unicode symbols that are represented in such an encoding.

All you need to know about the "Zalgo" non-sense can be easily found. Like here, for instance.

But, I don't think while designing unicode, people intended this appearance to be possible, I guess. I think of it as a hack in a visual sense, Plus, for any hack to be possible, the "functionality" has to be there (also the part that makes the hack possible) , otherwise that hack would not be possible.What I mean is that every hack is a part of the 'functionality' of the system in consideration.

While "designing" the latin script, I don't think people intended for me to be able to write "dfSJdfgnjitaDF". I also don't think they, like "the unicode people", would be very surprised if they saw something like that. With "unintended behaviour" I meant something that, once aware of, it would cause them to want to fix it.

Of course, there are many definitions of "hack" and plenty room for subjective interpretation.

yeah, ok. But, yeah I just wanted to share the "slang" term Zalgo here, so that people can have a reference when they notice something like this for the first time.
