I'm not aware of any change in encoding on our side.
Also, I'm not quite sure how removing the e-mails after an attack helps them avoid being compromised. (Or was it during? Or do you mean that the accounts might have been compromised?) It might be better to instead reset the passwords and mail people about it. If mail information was compromised, you might have used a database backup. (Unless you follow the gizmore doctrine of backing up.

Edit: I forgot to mention that after setting my mail and changing my pass, my country code now says "qma". No idea what it means or how to get rid of it.
